          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Other">The objectives of the present study are twofold: (1) to examine the status quo of MMU juniors' aural perception and listening comprehension of the English language; and (2) to investigate the effectiveness of some of the listening exercises designed for the students. Two tests (i.e., pre-and-post) were given at an interval of about three months. The pre-test conducted prior to a course in LLIII revealed that our students are very poor in aural perception and listening comprehension. Therefore, the students were asked to carry out the listening exercises at home and to listen to a listening comprehension tape recorded in the LL. Based upon the results of the two tests, some comments and suggestions are also made regarding ability grouping.</datacite:description>
